que sera, sera

so i haven’t been fasting for ramadan. i wish i could say that it was simply just because i can’t deal with the hunger. it is because i could not think of anything but the hunger. and when i’m fasting just for the sake of doing it, then my motivations are wrong. i’m not having the clarity of mind that i need to have and i don’t want to view fasting as a form of punishment. it needs to be something to which i look forward. it needs to be something that helps me grow.

the semester begins tomorrow and i think the challenge that will help me be the person i want to be is to learn acceptance to changes and to things i cannot control. life will be life, people will be people, i’m going to be who i am supposed to be when it’s time. there are things i can do to help me move forward but i can not move faster than i am… and the same things can be applied to my expectations of others.

a friend reminded me the other day that just because i see the potential in others, it doesn’t mean i have the right or it’s fair for me to expect them to live up to it. people are doing the best that they can and it’s not my responsibility to hold them to the same standards that i hold myself.

this is quite a tall order for me but i will get there when i get there. and that’s how i will begin.

Change the fabric of your own soul and your own visions, and you change all. ~Vachel Lindsay~

so i wanna say “thank you”

i don’t think christina aguilera can get any better than her stripped album and fighter has got to be in my top 3 favorite music videos of all time, if not my top favorite. the song itself would get a lot of playtime around me when i needed to get pumped up and to this day, i still blast the song at ear-splitting levels in my car right before an exam. loves it!

stupidity is where it’s @

ok i’m going to be a grouch but it really bothers me when i see threads on facebook with too many @ symbols. it’s traditionally acceptable simply to use the person’s name to let them know that you’re speaking to them. you don’t need to preface it with any extraneous symbol. it doesn’t have a function and it makes no sense.

i get it if you’re on twitter and you’re trying to refer to them. i even get it on facebook statuses when you’re trying to link to them. but i don’t get it in every day communication when there’s no function.

@ everyone, please let’s stop overusing symbols that have no function.

Side Story: Epiphany at the Airport (via 36×37)

Side Story: Epiphany at the Airport I’ve parked in the Red lot, and am riding the shuttle to the U.S. Airways concourse at the Columbus Airport. Despite my “no small talk on public transportation” rule, I’m somehow chatting wholeheartedly with what turns out to be the loveliest couple. He’s warm and animated. She’s soft spoken and sweet. They took the same shuttle yesterday, hoping to fly to LA for her brother’s funeral. But then Delta delayed the flight “indefinitely,” and when th … Read More

Months after the March for Equality (via eating words)

equality please, thanks.

Months after the March for Equality Back in October, I went to the March for Equality in Washington, DC. One of my favorite things about the march was seeing all the different signs people made. Some were fierce. Some were funny. Some were just plain silly. Most spoke the truth, however they chose to angle it. I started writing this post months ago … Read More

pomeranian on chair

i got this email from a friend today:

Hey guys, I rarely reach out to y’all but Tucker needs some help.  He has a friend named Maggie that is an incredible dog.  She is a seizure alert dog and spends a lot of her time with therapeutic patients. She has been diagnosed with a fatal heart disease. :(

Please help by voting for her picture. If she wins, her mom gets a custom painting to forever treasure her best friend. I know it’s sappy and some of you will laugh at me but Maggie is worth it!

Vote for ” “Pomeranian on Chair”.   Feel free to forward to other dog/animal lovers! Thanks!

how to make batchoy

i really should write more about the filipino food that i cook.

i made batchoy for the first time the other day… and boy was it good! the entire thing was cooked old-school style so i don’t know any exact measurements. it was just adding the ingredients in there until it tastes the way i know it should taste. i used:

-pork (cut into small cubes)

-half an onion

-several cloves of garlic

-black pepper

-salt

-fish sauce

-cilantro

-oil

-several table spoons of pork blood

  1. first i sauteed the onion and garlic
  2. in the meantime, boil the pork in a separate pot until cooked. keep the broth.
  3. add the pork into the onion and garlic and continue sauteeing, adding fish sauce, pepper and salt
  4. add the pork broth and let simmer.
  5. take 3 teaspoons of the pork blood and add it in. it will solidify in the batchoy.
  6. add the cilantro
