It was the most sincere display of appreciation that my five-year-old son has ever shown.  He looked me straight in the eyes and said a very mature and worldly “thank you.”  The words were full of honesty, relief, happiness and a little bit of anguish.

“You’re welcome, baby,” I said looking at him with a smile and masking the pain I was feeling.

We are a meat-eating family.  Beef, chicken, pork - you name it, we eat it.  So the fact that we are about to become vegetarians is like the Pope publicly announcing that he wants to get together with Asa Akira (world famous porn star, in case you didn't know) for a little "back door fun".

The idea isn't new though.  My daughter mentioned it about two months ago.

Our Mom was THE BEST cook.....seriously. She had a knack of creating such delicious flavors out of the most modest ingredients. And like most Vietnamese mothers, along side your serving of dinner, you would get several quick-tongue remarks and sharp attitude. :)

Lately, I have been finding myself missing my Mom a lot. And when those times come, I tend to gravitate towards recreating dishes and flavors that came out of her kitchen.

How important are grades to you? (via a life review)

i feel this way about school all the time. grades are very disillusioning a lot of times.

How important are grades to you? an article for Meld Magazine. Thanks to Karen Poh for editing it! :) Marcella Purnama discovers grades aren't the best measure of success. THE first time I discovered grades ruled my life was when I was preparing my high school graduation speech. I came across American student Erica Goldson’s words, which struck a deep chord in me. She said in her valedictorian speech: “I have successfully shown that I was the best slave. I did what I was told to … Read More
